Our worship at Bethel continues a year-long series working through the biblical story from beginning to end, following the Narrative Lectionary. This Sunday, we explore the story of Jacob, the third ancestor in the Abraham, Isaac and Jacob sequence. Although the third, he is arguably the most important as his name-change to Israel represents his personifying Israel as a whole. His foibles, as well as his promise, thus are a word not only about him, but to Israel and the church.
