The Gospel of Trees

The Gospel of Trees is Apricot Irving’s memoir of growing up on a missionary compound in Haiti. The portrait of her family is honest and compelling. We learn about her father’s passionate work as an agronomist, her mother’s difficult adjustment to life in a new country, and the history of brutal colonization in Haiti. We come to see how a family changed by its own ambitious philanthropy ultimately finds hope in their faith and love for each other and for Haiti. This book was recommended by a Bethel member.
