MDS: Cape Breton

Cape Breton/Hurricane Fiona update. | We are pleased to say our weekly volunteer needs for the MDS Canada Cape Breton response have been met! We do need a few more leadership volunteers, some crew leaders, and an office manager. To date, we have about 30 homes on the list for repair—from light repairs to complete guttings and new roofs. We expect we will be finished there in August.

One of the people we helped was Rosalyn Purcell, whose house was damaged by the storm. Her mother, Caroline Purcell, wrote us to say: “Chris Tomlin’s song ‘Whom shall I fear,’ has a line about ‘God’s angel armies.’ It has been running through my mind and bringing me to tears. I truly believe God sent his angel army through MDS as an answer to our prayers . . . That little house will always be special because God restored it, using his hand-picked team.”

Her note reminded Roman Heuft, MDS’s Cape Breton Response Coordinator, that “MDS doesn’t just clean out, repair and rebuild homes. We want to also bring hope to those who have lost all hope and support to those who need it most.”
