Reflection

As I step into the Advent season, the air is filled with a sense of anticipation and preparation. The world around me seems to be wrapped in quiet excitement, in the countdown to Christmas. In the midst of all this busyness, I find that there is an opportunity for deep reflection as we prepare for the season. Advent is a time of waiting and preparing, not just for the celebrations and the exchange of gifts. It is a season that invites us to slow down, to pause and consider what Christmas is all about.

From an Anabaptist perspective, the emphasis on simplicity and community takes center stage during Christmas. We are reminded to focus on faith, family, and service rather than the material things that often define the holiday season. Advent becomes a time of reflection on these values, as well as embracing the simplicity found in the story of Jesus’ birth. For me, preparing for Advent usually involves more than just decorating or shopping for gifts. It is about encouraging a sense of mindfulness, about being present in the moment and recognizing the holiness of each day leading up to Christmas. This season reminds me to examine my heart and my life, to connect with God, to create space for love and grace and to come together with others to share in the joys and challenges of life.

In this season of waiting, I find myself drawn to the quiet moments of reflection. I invite others to join me in this reflection of rekindling the flame of hope, peace, joy, and love within whatever action brings you closer to God. As we prepare our hearts and lives may we find joy in the shared anticipation of the love that unites us all in Jesus.
