Community Ministry

Carter Early Learning Centre held its 48th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday January 30. At the meeting, held on Zoom, the audited financial statements for the 2022-23 financial year ending June 30, 2023, were approved, and three new parent representatives were elected to serve on the board.

The past year was a notable one for Carter in that the new early learning and childcare bilateral agreement between the federal and provincial governments brought reduced parent fees along with changes in how funding is received. Carter also received several government grants which allowed much-needed renovations to the Centre’s kitchen and front playground, as well as the development of a new dramatic play area in the preschool side of the Centre. The board was also pleased to see the implementation of a new wage grid for educators, bringing long overdue increases to staff wages.

Looking ahead, this coming fall we look forward to celebrating Carter’s 50th anniversary serving young families in our community! Carter is a key partner in Bethel’s community ministries, and we are excited to find ways to celebrate this milestone together.

The Carter board consists of four parent representatives, two Bethel representatives, and one community representative. Your Bethel members on the Carter Early Learning Centre board are Vern Janzen and Kathy McCamis. Either of us would be happy to talk with you if you’re curious about the work of the Centre, would like a copy of the AGM report book, or want to learn more about what’s happening at Carter.
