Kathy Koop

Interim Lead Pastor

Kathy Koop (nee Plett) grew up in Bechterdissen, Germany, a small town near Bielefeld. After nurses training in Germany, and spending two years at the Bibleschool Bienenberg in Switzerland, she attended CMBC for three years. After her graduation she married Karl Koop and they shared the position of youth and associate pastor in St. Catharines, ON for three years. After studies at AMBS, Kathy worked as a chaplain at a nursing home in Vineland, ON for three years. She returned to Germany for four years working for MCC helping newly arrived Russian Germans (Aussiedler) some of whom were of Mennonite background. She then taught at Bethany Christian High School in Goshen, IN for another three years while pursuing an education degree at Goshen College and finishing her Master’s degree in theology and ethics at AMBS. In 2002 she began her ministry at First Mennonite in Winnipeg--first as associate pastor and then, since 2010, as Lead Pastor.

She and Karl have four adult children as well as two grandchildren.
